Subject: just to say thank you re: Mary Dixon

Hi Barb -
I just wanted to thank you for pursuing this opportunity with Mary Dixon. She can put so many good messages into a presentation that it is scarey

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about something Mary told me or shared with me. All the while, it just seems like a relaxed talk and gab session.

It isn't til you think about it that you realize you have been pumped up with lots of good stuff that you will use each and every time you ride. She isn't the stuck up or know it all type - she is just a down to earth person who has all the time in the world for fellow horse lovers.

You will really like her. Let me know how I can help get this set up. Talk to you soon -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mary,
We have scheduled our entire FL vacation around being back for your talk on the 22nd! I wouldn't miss it! I am eager to get you in front of these people. Now you do whatever Barb tells you - but I have to say, when I think of advice that you gave me that I call upon frequently - I still think about your "pushing over the cliff" demo - really stuck with me and has helped me with my "thinker" - and also - your "horse energy" thing - so many people think there is safety in numbers - NOT when you have a willie nillie for a horse! And also, so many people who go trail riding think all horses do it! If they could only be so lucky!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was so good to see you both! Seeing you guys flooded my brain with all the memories I have of my ride time there - truly a turning point in my life! The people who listened were just buzzing and Brian who was in the back of the room commented that "you had the room" which is the biggest compliment I can think of from a guy who spent a lot of time doing public speaking. It is hard to hold a room of "gabbers" for five minutes let alone an hour - and you did it girl!

10/18/07 From Assad

Dear Mary and Rich,

I have to say :  This was the most wonderful and thrilling experience of my life so far.
I am only  a beginner and in only 3 days I was able to learn and do so muchthat there is only one word to describe it - AMAZING ! ! !

And all ofit is because of teaching and instructions that you guys provide.  I will definitely try my best to be back here.

Thanks.
Assad.

Dear Mary and Rich,

I can't believe tomorrow is the last day already but my brain is so full of new information and things to try and practice with my Winnie that I guess it's a good thing to go away and chew on them for a while.

Thanks (again) for a great time, lots of thrills and a ton of knowledge.  I can't wait to play with Winnie and work together toward a better partnership after what I have learned these past few days.

What a wonderful miracle horses are.!   What a wonderful miracle AHR is !

Love,

Sharon

A few of the  emails below are paraphrased by me so that other personal info is not included and also to save on space.  We still have lots TONS more but don't know when we  will get around to putting them on here.  Anyway, you'll get the idea of what you can expect from your visit here !!!
  Subject: Post Adventure Nostalgia

Have been thinking all week about my favorite cowgirl in the wide world and her lovely partner (not the horse). The experience was one of the most valuable riding lessons of my life, I was not perfect, in many respects totally clueless, and I left feeling self-assured and resolute anyway! I feel sure it will be with me indefinitely, and no thank you is quite enough. But . . . thanks, thank you and thank you very much!
----------------------------------------------------------------
I now have  a level of confidence that YOU helped install,, no doubt in my mind, and then it blended into the Canada challenge so that now I think to myself the whole time, well yeah, I really can ride and it doesn't have to be perfect. Your compliment is a huge one for me considering who it's from!
Thanks so much! Love, Nita
----------------------------------------------------------------
I wondered if I would survive the rest of the week at the endurance racer in Quebec.  . But . . . . there I was feeling very numb from the rain and immensely proud of myself! You prepared me for the challenge. I thought about our rides on those winding trails, the canters that felt like gallops many times, and so I was okay. All those canters that, guess what, turned into gallops for sure! So glad you gave me the heads up and the confidence, you most likely don't realize how much so.
Hey Mary and Rich,

Miss you both, and think about Pozo, and riding him just about everyday. It actually crossed my mind over the weekend who might be riding him, I was hoping it was someone he'd like. Yes I want to come back, Oct 2 or Oct 9 arrvials, either one would be fine. Also, I don't mind if you book other guests with me, but thats up to you. If Rich still has my credit card number you can book my deposit for either date. I still need to clear it with work, but it won't be a problem I'll give them plenty of notice. Thanks again for the pictures, and a GREAT vacation!
Joe

Hi Mary and Rich,

We are so excited - like kids! And we haven't stopped talking about our ride at your place - the way we enjoyed our visit with the two of you and what a great place and passion for your business you have. You guys are the best! T.
-----------------------------------------------------
UPDATE- went for a trail ride today with and a couple of girls - my guy did water, mud, wild turkey and road. All went fine despite fact that other two horses were a bit nuts. He was a real pro and my new seat made me feel really solid. Everytime I have another success, I think of you guys - you made it possible.  I call it the "school of Mary and Rich". T.
------------------------------------------------------
First and formost - I want to tell you you guys TEACH better than anyone. Second, every single thing you told me has been absolutely true and important which means your information is useful and good. And lastly - while I know I still have a lot to learn - and experience - I feel prepared to proceed with some of it on my own - and the rest, I will get when I come back to see you.

Once again - I have to tell you - my four days there was LIFE CHANGING. I think differently about lots of things and the results have been IMMEDIATE. I can't wait to see what weeks and months of it will do!

I was horse nuts before - but after your place - it has just spun out of control! Thank you - thank you- thank you! Life is soooooooo much better now - not that it was ever bad -it just wasn't technicolor!  T.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am amazed at the different perceptions people have about what kind of horse is "safe" - and though I know you are a Parelli girl and I am pretty sold on Lyons - the thing that I know we both realize is that there are no "short cuts" in getting a horse ready to be a partner. It takes the time it takes, as you are so fond of saying.

Anyway - the biggest gift you gave to me is that you let me know that I can do this and that I don't have to doubt myself if I am doing right by the horse. That is the key. And it takes however long it takes. Any time spent with a horse is not wasted. It is a gift - and those dark pools we call eyes - the windows to their spirits - well they are mesmerizing to me. Put that with with that warm sweet smelling breath and I melt every time. Thank you both for the wisdom and faith. T

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you guys ....Sometimes people won't do it cause they are afraid - other times they won't spend on themselves - but I try to tell them I see it all as a life changing event!!!! Not like a typical vacation that just blends into the background - it will always be at the top of my list - and coming back is definitely on my bucket list too - just because it was such a good time and it got me "back".

I trust and respect your abilities - so much that there is nobody I would rather ride with

Good luck with the challenging horse for training - You have a great touch for that. If ever I buy a young horse - I am coming directly to you!

Anyway - there is not a day that goes by that we don't think about what a great time we had on our trip - and Brian is probably sick to death of hearing about my riding - but he is such a good egg - still listens and I can tell he wishes he could still ride. We helped our border with trailer training the other day and it went so well we could hardly believe it. Marty and Rachel were really impressed - NOT ME - I was just totally blown away - there I was giving the "Mary speech" about it takes how ever long it takes and cautioning them not to push her over the cliff - and she just went on! No fanfare - no problem. And we did it a bunch of times - then we did it again a few days later

Off to bed now - talk to you later - thanks for all you do for us horse enthusiasts - T.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subject: OMG!
Well - tonight I loaded Denny into the trailer and hauled him to a friend's trails - the most challenging we have done together - and we had a BALL! There was one spot where we had to go down a rocky slope to a narrow creek then up a honkin' bank on the other side (sound familiar?) and while he was a bit hesitant going down the first time and did the BEAU hump back whale immitation to get up the other side - we did it! and both of us said "holy shit, can you believe it?" when we got to the top on the other side - It was damn near as good as sex - and on he return trip, it was like we had done it 1000 times. My seat was so secure - my balance unflappable - both times - and that is thanks to you guys. I could never have done it without you.

I guess it is really something to be remembered fondly when people have near orgasmic experiences! Not many professions can do that for ya'! Thanks - it was great for me and Denver. I hope hearing about it is good for you guys!

Thanks, thanks, thanks !
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
. You are a phenomenal woman with all of the qualities that people spend a life time in search of! Think of all he people whose pleasures in life have been heightened because of you? We come there to learn horse stuff - but in the process, we learn a lot about ourselves and change our approaches to many things - There isn't a day that goes by that I don't say right out loud "it takes however long it takes". It has become a cornersthone in my approach to lots of things - and surprise, surprise, "it takes less time". . Picking to partner with a horse says a lot about a person. And doing what you do with horses - and the people who come to you for help - well it is inspirational. So at the very young age of 61, you have touched so many lives - the likes of which most people will never touch. Congratulations, best wishes, and many, many personal thanks. T.

Thanks for emailing me back. I don't mean to gush all the time - but since I have come home from your place, I have been doing what I have been dreaming of since we started this horse thing - I am riding pretty much every day - I am loving the horse I ride - I am NOT terrified though I am still mindful of his sheer power and I have become a more confident, self assured rider.

I know when I am doing the right things and I know when to just be patient. My results are dramatically better and my horse likes to see me. You two made this possible for me. My experience there changed everything.

When I do doubt myself, I try to step back, reflect, think, and be patient. Denver is very forgiving if I make a mistake - and he truly appreciates not being " pushed off the cliff."  But I still remember you walking me around by the hand and then pushing me. That mental image is always in my mind. That was a great demonstration. Don't stop doing it - no matter what!
--------------------------------------------------------------
I can't explain what made me stick with riding despite the fact that I never really "got it" until I came to your place. I suppose it was because underneath, I knew somewhere, somehow, I would get the help I needed. The fear was such an issue after the crash - and you helping me work through that was the big breakthrough. Just like pushing the horse over the cliff, I continually felt that people were trying to push me over the cliff. I am more like a horse than I knew! Once everyone calmed down, life began to unfold and the joy and delight is not even measurable now

From: Tracey Merrett To: Mary & Rich Subject: RE: Lyons

well you are very welcome - especially in light of all the things you have told me - just thought you could add these to your arsenal for the gravitationally challenged riders - the bird in the hand thing has been of so much value to me- it is the last thing I think of before I pick up the reins - less is more when it comes to well trained horses! And putting your foot out toward the scarey thing - well that has saved a lot of "near misses" when they hop to the side or the like - it stablizes you without wrenching on the poor thing or falling off - when I watch people ride - I watch the horse's head and face and eyes - and I think about how you guys taught about the reins -- not only do they send a clear cue to the horse when they get the answer right - they are substantial enough to remind the rider to get it right. Anyhow - I am sure there will be somebody that will benefit from it. When I talked to him at the equine affair - I told him about your advice about not "pushing the horse over the cliff" and your illustrations about getting them closer and closer only to push them over if you don't watch it. He really liked that one - he practices letting the horse find its way and time - but he never really spelled it out as clearly as you did - So John Lyons is singing your praises too!
Subject: Re: The Big Darlings

Hi Mary,
Thank you for the great riding in Sept. It was so good to see you.
The riding experience you provided this past visit was great, similar and quite different. It had all the thrill of the rides I have taken with you in the past with you, with the addition of so developing in me so much more appreciation of the beauty, life, and mind of a a horse. It's always much more than just riding when I visit you.

I loved learning the natural horsemanship techniques, and all you and Rich showed us about being with the horses. The little book you gave Missy and I is a treasure. When I first got into riding I really just wanted to understand horses, not even ride them. I thought if I understood them that I would gain some important understanding about myself, and why I am the way I am in life. You know....life as a "prey" animal.

I was right about that. Being around horses continues to contain mind blowing lessons for me. Maybe, I was a horse in an earlier incarnation. A horse akin to Tiffany Louise perhaps... an X-Crack Addict in recovery!

It was great being with you, Debbie and Missy in the beauty of the woods. I am still really enjoying the memory of the walk through the pond and trips up and down the cliffs of Dover.

Peace and Love
Sue

Dear Mary and Rich,

My four days at AHR were amazing! By far the best vacation of my life!

Your knowledge and understanding of horses is second to none. Each and every day was great fun from morning to evening. I never dreamed I would have such confidence on a horse.

What a great thrill galloping up and down the never ending trails. Jumping the fallen trees at a flat out full canter.

Thanks Rich for going back to pick up my hat! I felt like a true cowgirl. I don't think I'll be able to wait until April you may see me this fall! Give the all the horses a big hug for me.

I smile everytime I think about the day they all laid down once Woody and Tiffany left the herd.

Much love,
Linda
Subject: How's My Pozo?

Hi Mary & Rich,
So, I have NOT stopped bubbling over to anyone who will listen about my fabulous trip. I can't even tell you what I loved the most (though I must admit that cantering over those trees was SUCH a blast, with the sound of Rich warning me, "You are not allowed to leave your saddle!" running thru my head).

But SWOOSH! over Pozo went like a champ & I smiled so much, my cheeks hurt!

Have a great day you guys, my love to all the "kids" (special attention to the "orphans") & I hope I didn't go on too long! Mary - please remember to give me your recommendations - specs & all - for me to purchase)
.
Thanks again you guys for a most rewarding, fun-filled, exciting time! It was everything I hoped it wopuld be & so much more than I imagined!!

Love you guys,
Maria
Mary and Rich,

Thanks for letting me accompany Barb. I'm sure you have quite prepared her for her trip to Spain.

You are quite a master with horses and I was so happy to be privy enough to hear you speak on the relationship yesterday morning.
Liz
Dear Mary and Rich,

Although this is my second year riding with you guys, I still enjoyed every single minute of it!

I love that I was able to ride Tiffany, Pozo and Blessed Joy so far (hopefully Dakota this afternoon).

It's so amazing how different each of these horses are. I probably should get a horse of my own, but I know how expensive it is to maintain one, so I think I'll just keep riding with you guys!!!

I also love how relaxing it is to be out in the woods with you and your horse. I hope to return again next year, so please keep me in for next spring.

Thanks again for a wonderful time!

Love,
Angela
Thank you so much  for providing the BEST, most willing horses in the world, especially Pozo and Dakota.

I will never, ever forget my fews days here from Australia.

Much love,
Julie
Dear Mary and rich -

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I don't know where to begin - This was an amazing experience.. The both of you are wonderful teachers and you walk your talk.

You keep referring to others who have "real jobs", but let me tell you, it's the two of ou who are doing what is REAL!

I've learned so much and now I'm hooked - Jeez, you're like dealers, cause now I'm addicted to this drug of natural horsemanship.

Thanks for everything - nothing could be done better, even the weather was perfect.
I'll be back for more.
Sincerely,

thinking of you
Hi Mary and Rich - if you only knew how much I've been thinking about the AMAZING time I had earlier this month with the both of you. You can't imagine. It ranks among the best experiences in my life (and I've been around...).

I think you'll be seeing me again
Mary and Rich

We sure did learn a lot about ourselves, too.

Thank you from our hearts - we had an absolutely wonderful time - we don't want to go home - don't make us go!!!

Love, Marina and Yelena

Thanks very much! We had a wonderful vacation and an unforgettable time. Also, both of you are real gifted teachers. Thanks a lot !!

We are already missing Dakota and Tiffany. Please tell them we love them.

Yelena & Marina.

BEST learning experience we could have ever dreamed of or imagined !

Spent 1 year of lessons at home in an arena - and learned nothing. Figured we just weren't skilled enough or smart enough - how very wrong we were !!!

Blessed, Dakota and Tiffany - such different horses - and all delightful.

Your instruction and patience were superb - how blessed we were to find you guys.

We sure did learn a lot about ourselves, too.

Thank you from our hearts - we had an absolutely wonderful time - we don't want to go home - don't make us go!!!

Dear Mary & Rich,

We're sitting here this morning having coffee and looking on this beautiful land.

A few days ago, when you told us all the horses' names, we saw nothing but brown dots with leg and heads on them.

Now, we're saying to each other, "Look, there's Dakota, where's Pozo?" and "Here comes Emmy, what a pretty girl."

If you had let us know that first day what we'd be doing by the last, we probably would have turned around and driven back to Chicago!

Thank you for an amazing week. You will probably never know how much we needed this, in so many ways.

You both have a gift for reading people without judging and allowing us to work through our "stuff" with the help of these incredible horses you have.

There's a writer we like who talks about the "rocking chair test" - judging your experiences by how you'll look back on them from your rocking chair.

This was definitely one of our rocking chair memories !!!

We are proud of ourselves for doing this, grateful to Dakota and Pozo for putting up with us and most of all, thankfrul to you for sharing your time and knowledge with us.

Ken and Amy Hogrefe

You are simply the BEST - in every way a visit with you is pure soul song. I love you - and I love to come here, and this particular visit was extra extra special since I could share it with Missy, meet Rich and be with Debi again.

Thank you Tiffany and Pozo and all your wonderful darlilngs..

Thanks for letting my soul open up once again to the beauty of people - ALL of YOU - Mary, Rich, Debi - thanks isn't enough!!!, nature, and my loved horses!

It was a fabulous experience - one for which I will always be happy and blessed to have experienced!

Thanks for making my heart smile many times and to trust when it may have been impossible.

It was a great adventure to meet new friends and be welcomed so easily!

Thanks, truly, for letting me keep my heart in my hand for all of you - and to my loved horse, it was a blast!

May we soon meet again.

Thanks for providing us with an unforgettable vacation. The leadership training, understanding of natural horsemanship, horses and humans will stick with us forever.

That was just the beginning. We will never be able to explain in depth for other to comprehend what we experienced.

It is one of those things hyou need to go through on your own and once you have you go " AHH, now I understand what they meant."

It is a lot like Love you can talk about it but to be in Love is totally different. This was like falling in love.

You took us to places that we know nobody else ever would. We appreciate your trust in us with your horses and your belief in us that we could do it.

Climbing mountains, going up hill, down hill, through streams, running through the pond, walking, trotting, cantering, bush whacking and on and on and on.
Regards, Tom and Helen

Rich instills confidence in you the way he explains things and double checks everything. From the fit of the stirrups, saddle, and how it all lines up on the horse without you on the horse and then again when you are on the horse.

When he told me to follow what he did, I knew the horse could do it and I would follow through.

My confidence grew day by day. On day four on the morning when Rich told Helen and I to go to the upper and lower trail separately, I was anxious and a little nervous but not scared.

Just me and Pozo singing songs. That is what a vacation should be, fun, enjoyable, relaxing and memorable.
Regards,Tom

Mary, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helpingme to fulfill a lifetime dream from when I was a little girl. I am blessed to have a husand who loves me and did this for me.

The greatest git was to see Tom smile and truly enjoy himnself and to watch this vacation unfold to be for both ofus. The sstoires that you shared made us laugh, however, Tom had you both beat on make me laugh until I cried, aka duct tape. We have included a picture of "Tom's essential horseback riding gear."

Rich, Thank you for finding my camera, retrieving my hat twice, finding Tom's glasses and for the additional trick riding for our enjoyment. Wow, who would have ever guessed that I no headaches!!

We can't wait till we can come again. Tom thinks he will be ready for Zippy next year so get him ready.

Regards, Helen
Mary and Rich,

These past 4 days have been so much more than an
adventure - most 60 year olds don't dream of flying across
fields and forests on horseback. I have lived my
dream after not riding in 40 years.

It is still just as real now as then. Lucky for me my two
children had the willingness to come with me. They truly
learned to ride and ride well in just 4 days.

This has been a life changing experience for me. To all the
skeptics you care to share this with: yes, Mary and Rich can teach you to ride in just 4 days.

And...a whole lot more about yourself, where you are, and
where you want to go.

With love and respect
Jim C.
Hi, Rich & Mary!

I woke up looking forward to the day and what the possibilities were. I thought of your horses
looking forward to meeting you at the beginning of the day not knowing where they were going or whom they could be carrying, and not caring either. They trust you whether you are training them, riding them or having them be
ridden.

I saw a correlation between me and the Lord Jesus and your horses and you.

We so thoroughly enjoyed our days with you. We are telling our stories all the time

. Thank you for excellent experiences and information and
for caring for us. We have your flowers on display in the living room.

We will never forget our time there.

Love you both,
Randy & Diane
